Our Local Union began in 1937 when a small group of men in the Little Rock area met to talk about their problems. The problems were low pay, job security and no dignity in their work. They believed it might help if they formed a Union.
They met secretly and talked quietly, at the time in Arkansas, "Unionism" was a forbidden word. When their plans became known, they were attacked, harassed, fired from job after job, and almost starved out. But they persevered and decided there must be a better way of life for themselves and their families. The only way to achieve this better life was to unite together in a Union-------------A STRONG UNION. This was the beginning of the Teamsters Local Union 878.
Today, over 70 years later, Local 878 has grown to over 3000 Members and is still growing. For our Members, "Unionism" isn't a forbidden word, it's a proud word to describe the road we travel to a better way of life for ourselves and our families.
